International Student Dental Care

International students at UofT and TMU are covered for dental care through the same student health and dental plans as domestic students.

Your student dental coverage is separate from UHIP (the University Health Insurance Plan), which covers medical care. The dental portion of your student plan covers routine and many restorative dental services, and we bill it directly. If you’re new to Canada and unsure how your coverage works, we’ll walk you through it at your first visit.

Does UofT student insurance cover dental?

Yes. Full-time UofT undergraduate students are automatically enrolled in the UTSU Health & Dental Plan, administered through Studentcare, which includes dental coverage. It covers checkups, cleanings, fillings, extractions, and more, with annual maximums set by your plan year. We accept the plan and bill it directly.

Does TMU student insurance cover dental?

Yes. Full-time TMU undergraduate students are automatically enrolled in the TMSU Health & Dental Plan, provided through Green Shield Canada via Studentcare. It covers routine and restorative dental care, plus additional coverage specifically for wisdom tooth removal. We bill Green Shield directly using your myBenefits card.

How much is a cleaning if I don’t have insurance?

If you don’t have student coverage, the cost of a cleaning depends on how much scaling is needed and whether you also need an exam and X-rays. We’ll give you a clear price before your appointment.

Can international students get dental care here?

Yes. International students at UofT and TMU are covered for dental care through the same student health and dental plans as domestic students. This is separate from UHIP, which covers medical care.
